Did you know there are currently over 40 hospice homes for children in England/UK, two in Australia, two in Canada and many others around the world? In metro areas around the United States, there are over 4,700 hospice homes for adults, but only a couple that are being built and designed just for children and their unique needs. There are 2,200 children living with life-limiting conditions in Minnesota and the mission of the Children's Lighthouse of Minnesota (CLM) is to offer respite and end-of-life care to children with life-limiting conditions and their families in Minnesota. CLM intends to fulfill this dream by creating a children's residential hospice home in the Twin Cities - a place where children with life-limiting conditions can stay for respite and a place where they can be cared for and loved at the end-of-life. I believe that it is time for us to provide this loving and unique care to children and families right here in Minnesota - so that children can live fully even if their life is short, and so that families can feel supported and nurtured to provide the challenging cares they face.
